Man hospitalized in al-Hadithah after torture by US-backed Iraqi tribal police.

 

In a dispatch posted at 7:24pm Baghdad time Saturday evening, the Yaqen News Agency reported that residents of Barwanah, a suburb of al-Hadithah, 270km northwest of Baghdad told Yaqen on Saturday that a local man had to be taken to al-Hadithah General Hospital after being subjected to intense torture by US-backed tribal “Awakening” police in the town.

 

Yaqen reported local witnesses as saying that detainee Muhammad ‘Ali was taken to the hospital in very grave condition, suffering from severe injuries as a result of interrogators belonging to the tribal “Awakening” police in Barwanah.  The witnesses said that the government police had arrested ‘Ali in Tikrit, 180km north of Baghdad, after most of the members of his family had been arrested by the Americans.  ‘Ali was turned over to the Barwanah “Awakening” tribesmen for “interrogation.”

 

Wave of arrests reported in al-Hadithah area.

 

In a dispatch posted at 6:17pm Baghdad time Saturday afternoon, the Yaqen News Agency reported that that members of the tribal “Awakening” police together with government police carried out extensive raids and searches in the areas of al-Hadithah, 270km northwest of Baghdad, and its suburb of al-Haqlaniyah.

 

Al-Khalidiyah.

 

Woman belt bomber wounds six in al-Khalidiyah Friday night.

 

In a dispatch posted at 9:45am Baghdad time Saturday morning, the Yaqen News Agency reported that a woman wearing an explosive belt blew herself up by a police station in al-Khalidiyah, 80km west of Baghdad on Friday night.

Iraqi regime launches raids, searches in Baghdad district known as stronghold of Jaysh al-Mahdi.

 

In a dispatch posted at 8:59pm Baghdad time Saturday night, the Yaqen News Agency reported that Iraqi regime troops carried out mass raids and searches targeted on the anti-occupation Jaysh al-Mahdi militia in the Baghdad district of Abu Dushayr, an area considered to be a stronghold of the militia loyal to Shi‘i religious leader Muqtada as-Sadr.

 

Yaqen reported eyewitnesses as saying that the Iraqi government troops closed all access and egress from Abu ad-Dushayr on Saturday morning, and then deployed troops throughout the district’s streets and lanes.  Local people said that troops claimed to be searching for weapons.

 

Since March, the US-backed Iraqi regime has been actively engaged in an offensive against the anti-occupation Jaysh al-Mahdi militia in what is believed to be preparation for an eventual American attack on Iran.

 

Car bomb explodes near church in central Baghdad Saturday afternoon.

 

In a dispatch posted on its Arabic website at 8:21pm Saturday evening Beijing time (4:21pm in Baghdad), the Xinhua News Agency reported that a car bomb had exploded by the side of a road near the Ministry of Industry and the al-Bab ash-Sharqi Church in central Baghdad after noon on Saturday.

 

In a dispatch posted at 8:43pm Saturday evening Beijing time (4:43pm in Baghdad), the Xinhua News Agency reported that that the car bombing killed three people and wounded 15 more. A number of private cars and nearby buildings were also damaged in the explosion.

 

It was the second car bomb explosion Saturday, the first having targeted a patrol of the Iraqi police, killing or wounding three people.

 

Bomb explodes by US military patrol in Shi‘i neighborhood of Baghdad.

 

In a dispatch posted on its Arabic website at 7:15pm Saturday afternoon Beijing time (3:15pm in Baghdad), the Xinhua News Agency reported that a bomb exploded by a US military patrol behind the al-Firdaws Mosque in the eastern Baghdad district of Ur, a predominantly Shi‘i district.

 

Xinhua reported a source in the Iraqi government police as saying that the blast damaged an American Humvee but that no information on the nature or extent of US casualties was available because American forces cordoned off the area.  As of the time of reporting, the US had made no comment on the attack.

West Baghdad bomb wounds three.

 

In a dispatch posted on its Arabic website at 7:15pm Saturday afternoon Beijing time (3:15pm in Baghdad), the Xinhua News Agency reported that a bomb exploded by a pickup being driven by an official of the Iraqi regime Defense Ministry on al-Faris Square in western Baghdad.

 

Xinhua reported that the blast damaged the pickup and shattered window glass in several private cars around the area.  Three people, including the Defense Ministry worker, were injured in the explosion.

 

Diyala Province.

Al-Miqdadiyah.

 

Five policemen wounded in bomb explosion near al-Miqdadiyah.

 

In a dispatch posted at 2:05pm Baghdad time Saturday afternoon, the Yaqen News Agency reported that a bomb exploded by a patrol of Iraqi government police on the road to the village of Sanijah near al-Miqdadiyah, 85km northeast of Baghdad.

 

Kan‘an.

 

Bomb kills child on playground in Kan‘an Friday.

 

In a dispatch posted at 12:21pm Baghdad time midday Saturday, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported that a bomb exploded on a children’s playground in Kan‘an, 65km northeast of Baghdad, on Friday.

 

The AMSI reported a source who asked not to be identified as saying that the bomb exploded on a playground near the Diyala Television and Radio offices in the Kan ‘an area, killing one child and severely wounding three more who were taken to a hospital for treatment.

 

Ninwa Province.

Al-Mawsil.

 

Ambush on police patrol leaves two policemen dead, five people, including passersby, wounded.

 

In a dispatch posted at 10:51pm Baghdad time Saturday night, the Yaqen News Agency reported that armed men ambushed a police patrol in the Bab al-Bayd area of western al-Mawsil, 420km northwest of Baghdad, killing two policemen and wounding two other policemen and three civilians who happened to be in the area.

 

Al-Mawsil has been the scene of US-led military operations targeting the al-Qa‘idah organization, known for its extensive use of suicide car bombs, since 10 May.

In a dispatch posted at 5:35pm Baghdad time Saturday afternoon, the Yaqen News Agency reported that a car bomber blew himself and his vehicle up near an Iraqi police checkpoint in al-Mawsil, 420km northwest of Baghdad.


Al-Mawsil has been the scene of US-led military operations targeting the al-Qa‘idah organization, known for its extensive use of suicide car bombs, since 10 May.

 

Shots fired at governor’s motorcade in al-Mawsil Saturday morning.

 

In a dispatch posted at 2:35pm Baghdad time Saturday afternoon, the Yaqen News Agency reported that the motorcade of the US-appointed governor of Ninwa Province came under gunfire during an inspection tour of al-Mawsil, 420km northwest of Baghdad on Saturday.

 

Yaqen reported a source in the Ninwa Province Governor’s Office as saying that armed men emerged from a lane in the az-Zanjili area of western al-Mawsil and fired on the motorcade of Durayd Kashmulah before noon Saturday.  The source said that the governor was on an inspection tour of the several al-Mawsil districts accompanied by the Municipal Administrator.  The gunshots damaged one of the cars in which the governor’s bodyguards were riding, but no one in the motorcade was injured or killed in the assault.

 

Al-Mawsil has been the scene of US-led military operations targeting the al-Qa‘idah organization since 10 May.

 

Raids and arrests reported in al-Mawsil early Saturday.

 

In a dispatch posted at 1:10pm Baghdad time Saturday afternoon, the Yaqen News Agency reported that Iraqi regime forces accompanied by American and Kurdish separatist Peshmergah troops and tribal “Awakening” police, carried out raids and searches in numerous neighborhoods of the as-Suways area and the al-Andalus neighborhood of al-Mawsil, 420km northwest of Baghdad early Saturday morning.

 

Al-Ba‘aj.

 

US, Iraqi regime forces respond to attack, destroying two houses, killing four.

 

In a dispatch posted at 6:52pm Baghdad time Saturday afternoon, the Yaqen News Agency reported that US and Iraqi regime troops killed four Iraqis and destroyed two houses in the al-Ba‘aj area west of al-Mawsil in northwestern Iraq.

 

Yaqen reported ‘Abd ar-Rahim ash-Shamari, the governor of the district, as saying that US and Iraqi regime troops blew up a house in the ar-Risalah housing area to the south of al-Ba‘aj.  Then a US helicopter blasted the house as well, killing four Iraqis who were inside.  The attacks destroyed the house and the house next door as well.

 

A communiqué issued by the Americans stated that US forces came under light arms fire and responded by blasting the house from which the gunfire had come.  Air support was called in and two houses were then struck, killing four Iraqis.

 

Wasit Province.

Al-‘Aziziyah.

 

Iraqi regime forces arrest seven individuals near al-‘Aziziyah in continued US-backed drive against anti-occupation Jaysh al-Mahdi militia.

 

In a dispatch posted at 8:18pm Baghdad time Saturday evening, the Yaqen News Agency reported that Iraqi government “Investigation Bureau” forces arrested seven people it said were members of the anti-occupation Jaysh al-Mahdi militia in the al-‘Aziziyah area, 55km southeast of Baghdad.

 

Yaqen reported Brigadier General Ibrahim Muhammad, the Director of the Iraqi regime’s National Bureau of Information and Investigation, as saying that the seven were arrested for armed activity in the areas of al-‘Aziziyah and, to the west on the other side of the  Tigris River, in as-Suwayrah.

Maysan Province.

Police round up anti-occupation Jaysh al-Mahdi militiamen in Maysan Province, as apparent preparations for US attack on Iran continue.

 

In a dispatch posted at 11:50am Baghdad time Saturday morning, the Yaqen News Agency reported that Maysan Province government police arrested four people it claimed were members of the anti-occupation Jaysh al-Mahdi militia in the al-Hali area to the southwest of al-‘Amarah, 290km southeast of Baghdad.

 

Yaqen reported a source in the police as saying that three people were arrested in the al-Maymunah area 25km southwest of al-‘Amarah, and the fourth 45km southwest of al-‘Amarah.

 

The source said that the arrests are part of a new security operation mounted by the US-backed Maysan Province government.  Since March, the US-backed Iraqi regime has been actively engaged in an offensive against the anti-occupation Jaysh al-Mahdi militia in what is believed to be preparation for an eventual American attack on Iran.

 

Al-Basrah Province.

Iraqi police arrest 13 more Jaysh al-Mahdi fighters in continued US-backed drive in al-Basrah.

 

In a dispatch posted at 10:12am Baghdad time Saturday morning, the Yaqen News Agency reported that Iraqi regime police arrested 13 more members of the anti-occupation Jaysh al-Mahdi militia in their continuing American-backed series of raids targeting the organization in the southern province of al-Basrah on Friday evening.

 

Yaqen reported a source in the government police as saying that the arrests took place in the city of Abu al-Khasib, 20km south of al-Basrah.  The source added that in addition to arresting the men, the police found six Kalashnikov automatic weapons and three rocket-propelled grenades.
