Baghdad.

 

Bomb kills civilian killed in bomb explosion in southern Baghdad.

 

In a dispatch posted on its Arabic website at 7:44pm Thursday afternoon Beijing time (3:44pm in Baghdad), the Xinhua News Agency reported that a bomb had exploded in Baghdad’s al-Bayya‘ district.

 

Xinhua reported a source in the area as saying that a bomb that had been planted in a civilian car went off as it drove through the south Baghdad district.  One civilian was killed and two others wounded and later taken to al-Yarmuk General Hospital for treatment.

 

Bomb explodes by US patrol in Baghdad.

 

In a dispatch posted on its Arabic website at 7:44pm Thursday afternoon Beijing time (3:44pm in Baghdad), the Xinhua News Agency reported that a bomb had exploded by a US patrol in north Baghdad’s al-Waziriyah district.

 

Xinhua reported that the blast set one Humvee on fire but no information on the nature or extent of casualties, if any, was available.

 

Bomb near university in Baghdad causes no casualties.

 

In a dispatch posted at 11:40am Baghdad time Thursday morning, the Yaqen News Agency reported that a bomb went off by a patrol of Iraqi government police near al-Mustansiriyah University in Baghdad Thursday morning.

 

Yaqen reported a source in the police as saying that the blast in the eastern part of Baghdad caused no casualties or damage.

Ash-Sharuqat.

 

Bomb reportedly targets US vehicle near ash-Sharuqat Thursday.

 

In a dispatch posted at 9:36pm Baghdad time Thursday night, the Yaqen News Agency reported that a homemade bomb went off by a US patrol in the ash-Sharuqat area, 250km north of Baghdad, on Thursday.

 

Yaqen reported a source in the ash-Sharuqat district police as saying that the bomb disabled one American vehicle and wounded an unspecified number of US troops.  The source said he had seen American forces carrying their casualties away.  As of the time of reporting, the US side had made no comment on the claim.

 

Bayji.

 

Output continues as usual at Bayji refinery despite bomb explosion.

 

In a dispatch posted at 10:23pm Baghdad time Thursday night, the Yaqen News Agency reported that a homemade bomb went off under an oil pipeline near the village of as-Safrah, south of Bayji, 200km north of Baghdad, Thursday afternoon.

 

Yaqen reported a refinery worker who asked not to be named as saying that the blast damaged one pipeline running between the Bayji refinery and the oilfields in Kirkuk.  The worker said that the blast took out one pipeline only and that a secondary line was put into operation, and that as a result neither output at the refinery nor its huge reserve oil stock was unaffected by the attack.

In a dispatch posted at 9:01pm Baghdad time Thursday night, the Yaqen News Agency reported that a member of the guards police accidentally shot and killed another policemen in Bayji, 200km north of Baghdad, on Thursday.

 

Yaqen reported Colonel Muzhir al-Qaysi, Chief of Police in Bayji, as saying that a policeman charged with keeping order over a group of Iraqis gathered at the government administration building to receive unemployment allowances opened fire with his weapon over the heads of the unemployed workers in an attempt to assert control over them.

 

But one of the bullets fired by the policeman ricocheted off a roadblock in the area and into the head of another law officer on duty at the site, killing him instantly.  Colonel al-Qaysi said that an investigation of the incident was underway.

Jalawla’.

 

Bomb destroys home of army officer in Jalawla’.

 

In a dispatch posted at 10:46pm Baghdad time Thursday night, the Yaqen News Agency reported that gunmen blew up the home of an officer in the Iraqi government officer in the Jalawla’ area, 120km northeast of Baghdad.

 

Yaqen reported Abu Yasin, a Jalawla’ resident, as saying that armed men planted a bomb inside the home of Captain Riyad Khalaf in the Mahallat ash-Shuhada’ area of Jalawla’.  The gunmen then detonated the bomb, bringing down and totally destroying the house.  The home was vacant at the time and, accordingly, no one was injured in the attack.

 

Witnesses said that the explosion did, however, inflict serious damage to houses of other people located in the neighborhood, though no one was killed.  After the attack, government police cordoned off the area and began a search for the gunmen.

Al-Hashimiyah.

 

US military vehicle kills Iraqi family in collision in al-Hashimiyah Thursday morning.

 

In a dispatch posted at 3:35pm Baghdad time Thursday afternoon, the Yaqen News Agency reported that a vehicle in an American column slammed into a private car in the area of ad-Dara‘at near al-Hashimiyah, 130km south of Baghdad, before noon on Thrusday.

 

Yaqen reported a source in the Babil Province police as saying that a vehicle in a US military column collided with an Iraqi private car.  All the Iraqis in the car were killed – a man, three women, a child, and the driver of the car, the police source said.

 

The source noted that the American column did not stop after the collision, but continued on its way, with none of the US personnel stopping to investigate or evacuate the bodies of the dead.

Drive-by shooting leaves woman dead, husband wounded.

 

In a dispatch posted at 5:31pm Baghdad time Thursday afternoon, the Yaqen News Agency reported that gunmen killed a woman and wounded her husband in northern al-Mawsil, 420km northwest of Baghdad, in an armed assault on Thursday.

 

Yaqen reported a source in the city police as saying that gunmen in a late-model car sprayed a woman and her husband with a hail of bullets in the ar-Rashid area of northern al-Mawsil, killing the woman and wounding the man.

 

Since 10 May, al-Mawsil has been the scene of a US-led offensive against the al-Qa‘idah organization.

 

Policeman, gunman killed in clash in al-Mawsil Wednesday evening.

 

In a dispatch posted at 9:55am Baghdad time Thursday morning, the Yaqen News Agency reported that armed men attacked a policeman in the Ra’s al-Kur area of cenral al-Mawsil, 420km northwest of Baghdad, on Wednesday evening.

 

Yaqen reported a source in the police as saying that the policeman and one of the gunmen were killed in the clash.  The source had no further details to offer, other than to say that the policeman was on leave at the time of the attack and that his body was sent to a forensic morgue in the city.

 

Since 10 May, al-Mawsil has been the scene of a US-led offensive against the al-Qa‘idah organization.

US-backed forces launch major offensive against anti-occupation Jaysh al-Mahdi militia in al-‘Amarah in apparent preparation for US attack on Iran.

 

In a dispatch posted at 10:20am Baghdad time Thursday morning, the Yaqen News Agency reported that Iraqi regime forces had launched a major offensive against the anti-occupation Jaysh al-Mahdi militia in the city of al-‘Amarah, 290km southeast of Baghdad, on Thursday morning.

 

Yaqen reported source in the army as saying that the US-backed Iraqi government troops had been tightening their grip on al-‘Amarah, a stronghold of the anti-occupation Sadr Movement and its armed wing the Jaysh al-Mahdi for several days.

 

Since March, the US-backed Iraqi regime has been actively engaged in an offensive against the anti-occupation Jaysh al-Mahdi militia in Iraq, in what is believed to be preparation for an eventual American attack on Iran.

 

Iraqi regime dismisses 700 policemen from Maysan Province on suspicion that they were linked to Jaysh al-Mahdi.

 

In a dispatch posted on its Arabic website at 3:43pm Thursday afternoon Beijing time (11:43am in Baghdad), the Xinhua News Agency reported that Major General ‘Abd al-Karim Khalaf, spokesman for the Interior Ministry, had announced that the government had fired 700 members of the police force in Maysan Province due to their supposed links with the anti-occupation Jaysh al-Mahdi militia.

 

Xinhua reported Khalaf as saying that the raids in Maysan had produced 12 arrests and the seizure of unspecified quantities of materiel.

 

Sadrist governor of al-‘Amarah arrested by Iraqi regime troops.

 

In a dispatch posted at 1:10pm Baghdad time Yaqen reported that Iraqi regime forces had arrested the governor of the city of al-‘Amarah, who is concurrently the Lieutenant Governor of Maysan Province, and who is also a member of the anti-occupation Sadr Movement.

 

Yaqen reported the Director of the Sadr Movement office in Maysan as saying that the government troops arrested the city leader Rafi‘ Jabbar as part of the US-backed campaign against the movement in apparent preparation for an attack on Iran.

 

The Director of the Sadr Office said that Iraqi regime forces were carrying out raids that were terrorizing families and whole neighborhoods, where soldiers insult and curse local residents.  He said that although the nominal reason for the offensive was to round up violators of the law, in fact only members of the Sadr Movement were being arrested.  The Sadr official said, however, that he had spoken to Major General ‘Abd al-Karim Khalaf, the Head of Operations at the Interior Ministry, and that Khalaf had promised to put an end to the abuses.

In a dispatch posted on its Arabic website at 3:58pm Thursday afternoon Beijing time (11:58am in Baghdad), the Xinhua News Agency reported that Iraqi police forces arrested 20 people in the continuing US-backed campaign against the anti-occupation Sadr Movement and its armed wing, the Jaysh al-Mahdi militia in al-Basrah.

 

Xinhua reported a source in the police as saying that Interior Ministry forces carried out raids and searches in various parts of the city, in the course of which they arrested 20 people.  In addition, the source claimed, the government troops seized a quantity of munitions.
