· Iraqi government forces capture Sunni-sectarian al-Qa‘idah commander for Diyala Province, charged with 16 murders, numerous kidnappings.

US troops conduct security raids in al-Fallujah Tuesday morning.
In a dispatch posted at 2:51pm Baghdad time Tuesday afternoon, the Yaqen News Agency reported that US troops arrested eight local residents of the al-Fallujah area, 60km west of Baghdad, in the course of raids in the area on Tuesday morning.
Yaqen reported sources in the Iraqi regime security forces as saying that the Americans were violating agreements with the Baghdad regime when they carried out searches in an area where the responsibility for security had been handed to the Iraqi regime.
Yaqen noted, however, that the US had not officially handed over responsibility for security in al-Anbar to the Iraqi regime as of yet. The US had planned to security responsibility to the Iraqi regime, but fighting between the Iraqi Islamic Party and the tribal “Awakening” police – rival pro-American Sunni organizations – compelled the Americans to postpone the transfer of authority.
A source in the local police told Yaqen that an American patrol attacked a home in the ash-Shurtah neighborhood of al-Fallujah at dawn Monday. He said that the US troops detained the members of the family until later in the morning and in the end arrested eight of the family members and confiscated 19 million Iraqi Dinars (about US$15,950).

Resistance group claims credit for bomb attack on US vehicle.
In a dispatch posted at 8:45pm Baghdad time Tuesday night, the Yaqen News Agency reported that the Iraqi resistance organization that calls itself the Army of the al-Murabitin, had issued a communiqué on Monday.
Yaqen reported that in its communiqué, the al-Murabitin Army claimed to have destroyed a special vehicle belonging to US troops in Salah ad-Din Province. The communiqué, which was dated Monday, 4 August, did not say where in the 24,363 square kilometers of the province the alleged attack had taken place, nor did it say when it was supposed to have occurred.
The al-Murabitin Army is a constituent member organization of the Supreme Command for the Jihad and Liberation – a coalition of groups associated with the Iraqi Baath Party.
Bomb explodes by Education Minister’s motorcade in eastern Baghdad Tuesday.
In a dispatch posted at 4pm Baghdad time Tuesday afternoon, the Yaqen News Agency reported that al-Kindi Hospital in Baghdad received four individuals who had been injured when a bomb exploded in eastern Baghdad by the motorcade of the Minister of Education, Khudayr al-Khuza‘i.
Yaqen reported a source in the Health Department of the Baghdad district of ar-Rusafah as saying that the attack on the Education minister took place on Palestine Street in Baghdad and that the car targeted in the attack belonged to the Directorate of Testing and Evaluation in the Education Ministry. Two security guards were wounded in the blast and later released from hospital after treatment. The Minister of Education attended a meeting of the Council of Ministers in Baghdad on Tuesday.
Bomb injures two in Baghdad’s Bab al-Mu‘azzam district Tuesday.
In a dispatch posted at 1:25pm Baghdad time Tuesday afternoon, the Yaqen News Agency reported that a bomb went off by a police patrol in the Baghdad district of Bab al-Mu‘azzam on Tuesday.
Yaqen reported a source in the police as saying that the blast occurred near the Forensic Medicine Department in Bab al-Mu‘azzam and that two people were injured in the attack. Police units responded by surrounding the area and transported the victims to hospital.

In a dispatch posted at 3:24pm Baghdad time Tuesday afternoon, the Yaqen News Agency reported that an adhesive bomb exploded by the motorcade of the Chief of the Health Regiment in Tuz Khurmatu, 185km north of Baghdad on Tuesday.
Yaqen reported a source in the police in Kirkuk as saying that the motorcade of Lieutenant Colonel Najm ad-Din Salah, the chief of the health brigade, had been the target of a bomb attack but that the blast caused no casualties.

Iraqi security sweep against al-Qa‘idah continues; 53 more wanted persons arrested Tuesday.
In a dispatch posted at 10:10pm Baghdad time Tuesday night, the Yaqen News Agency reported that Iraqi regime troops had arrested 53 suspects in the continued campaign against the Sunni-sectarian al-Qa‘idah in Diyala Province – a campaign launched there a week ago.
Yaqen reported Major General Muhammad al-‘Askari as saying that since Monday evening 53 wanted persons has been arrested. He added that a quantity of arms and materiel had been seized in the areas of al-Miqdadiyah, al-Hashimiyat, Buhriz, and al-Khalis in the province.
Iraq regime announces capture of al-Qa‘idah commander.
In a dispatch posted on its Arabic website at 9:16am Tuesday morning Beijing time (4:16am in Baghdad), the Xinhua News Agency reported that the Iraqi Interior Ministry announced on Monday evening that the al-Qa‘idah Amir (Commander) for Diyala Province had been captured in the course of the US-backed offensive against the Sunni-sectarian organization launched a week ago, on 29 July.
Xinhua reported a communiqué issued by Staff Major General ‘Abd al-Karim Khalaf, the Director of Operations at the Interior Ministry, as saying that Basim as-Saffah, al-Qa‘idah’s chief in Diyala Province, had been arrested on Monday. The Interior Ministry communiqué stated that as-Saffah had been responsible for the murder of 16 civilians, the kidnapping of dozens more, and the solicitation of ransom money from their families. The statement said that as-Saffah had also recruited 13 policemen to carry out terrorist acts and added that all as-Saffah’s terrorist partners had also been arrested.

“Awakening” commander, his wife, five family members killed in attack near al-Yusufiyah.
In a dispatch posted at 2:01pm Baghdad time Tuesday afternoon, the Yaqen News Agency reported that gunmen killed Ibrahim Hamzah al-Karbuli, a commander of the tribal “Awakening” police, along with six members of his family, including his wife, in the al-Yusufiyah area, 30km southwest of Baghdad.
Yaqen reported a member of al-Karbuli’s family saying that Ibrahim al-Karbuli tried to repulse the attackers but was overcome. Then US and Iraqi regime troops tried to pursue them but they managed to elude them.
The “Awakening” tribal police contingents are paid by the US military and were organized with the announced purpose of opposing the influence of the Sunni-sectarian fundamentalis al-Qa‘idah organization in Iraq.
Al-Iskandariyah.
Iraqi regime troops, police arrest 31 in dawn raids near al-Iskandariyah Tuesday.
In a dispatch posted at 10:50am Baghdad time Tuesday morning, the Yaqen News Agency reported that a joint force of Iraqi army and police conducted raids and searches in al-Iskandariyah, 40km south of Baghdad, at dawn on Tuesday morning.
Yaqen reported a source in the Babil Province police as saying that 31 people were arrested in the course of the raids.
At-Ta’mim/Kirkuk Province. Kirkuk.
“Awakening” police butchered near Kirkuk.
In a dispatch posted at 10:25am Baghdad time Tuesday morning, the Yaqen News Agency reported that gunmen butchered three members of the tribal “Awakening” police after attacking the checkpoint they were manning to the west of Kirkuk, 250km north of Baghdad.
Yaqen reported Brigadier General Sarhad Qadir as saying that gunmen attacked the village of al-Hindiyah, slit the throats of three “Awakening” policemen, and then fled the scene. General Qadir advanced the opinion that the policemen must have been sleeping at the time of the attack.
The “Awakening” tribal police contingents are paid by the US military and were organized with the announced purpose of opposing the influence of the sectarian al-Qa‘idah organization in Iraq. Al-Qa‘idah’s gunmen have been known on many occasions to kill their captives by butchering them.

Eight Jaysh al-Mahdi militiamen arrested in al-Basrah Province Tuesday.
In a dispatch posted at 9:20pm Baghdad time Tuesday night, the Yaqen News Agency reported that Iraqi police detachments arrested eight members of the Shi‘i sectarian Jaysh al-Mahdi militia in the southern province of al-Basrah on Tuesday.
Yaqen reported a source in the provincial police as saying that Interior Ministry forces in the province carried out raids and searches, arresting eight members of the pro-Iranian Jaysh al-Mahdi who are accused of “terrorism and crimes.” In addition, the government forces recovered 16 mortar shells in the al-Husayn neighborhood, 8km west of al-Basrah.
Since March, the US-backed Iraqi regime has been actively engaged in an offensive against the pro-Iranian Sadr Movement and its armed wing, the Jaysh al-Mahdi militia, in Iraq, in what is believed to be preparation for an American attack on Iran.
As-Sibah.
Landmine explosion kills three civilians in as-Sibah Tuesday.
In a dispatch posted at 7:45pm Baghdad time Tuesday evening, the Yaqen News Agency reported that a land mine exploded in the as-Sibah area, 50km southeast of al-Basrah on Tuesday.
Yaqen reported a source in the al-Basrah Province police as saying that the blast killed three local resident civilians. The source said that the land mine was a relic of previous wars.
