·        Suicide bomber kills US soldier, four Iraqis in at-Tarimiyah Sunday evening.

Resistance group claims shooting of American soldier in Rawah.

 

In a dispatch posted at 2:50pm Baghdad time Monday afternoon, the Yaqen News Agency reported that the Iraqi resistance organization known as the Army of the Muslims, a constituent member organization in the Jihad and Change Front, had issued a communiqué.

 

Yaqen reported the communiqué as stating that Army of the Muslims fighters had shot an American soldier in a sniper attack in the city of Rawah, 315km northwest of Baghdad.  The communiqué, which was dated Monday, 11 August, claimed that the American soldier died on the spot.  The statement, however, gave no indication as to when the alleged shooting had taken place.

Resistance group claims credit for bombing, disabling US vehicle in Baghdad.

 

In a dispatch posted at 4:50pm Baghdad time Monday afternoon, the Yaqen News Agency reported that  the Iraqi resistance group known as the Army of the Rashidin, a constituent member organization in the Jihad and Change Front, had posted a communiqué.

 

Yaqen reported the communiqué as claiming that fighters for the group had set off a bomb by a US military vehicle in southern Baghdad, disabling it and wounding those aboard.  The statement gave no indication as to when the alleged attack had taken place.

 

Explosion near medieval tomb in central Baghdad wounds five.

 

In a dispatch posted at 4:15pm Baghdad time Monday afternoon, the Yaqen News Agency reported that a bomb had exploded by a police car in the Bab ash-Shaykh area of central Baghdad.

 

Yaqen reported a source in the Iraqi police as saying that the bomb wounded five people, including one policeman, when it went off near the outer wall around the tomb of the medieval Sufi Shaykh ‘Abd al-Qadir al-Gilani

 

Bomb explodes by US patrol in northeastern Baghdad.

 

In a dispatch posted on its Arabic website at 6:37pm Monday afternoon Beijing time (1:37pm in Baghdad), the Xinhua News Agency reported that a bomb exploded by an American patrol in northeastern Baghdad’s ash-Sha‘b district.

 

Xinhua reported source in the Iraqi security services as saying that US forces closed off the area, making it impossible to ascertain any information regarding possible American casualties.

 

Two Iraqi civilians wounded when bomb explodes by US convoy in eastern Baghdad Monday.

 

In a dispatch posted on its Arabic website at 6:37pm Monday afternoon Beijing time (1:37pm in Baghdad), the Xinhua News Agency reported that a bomb exploded by an American military convoy as it drove along Palestine Street in eastern Baghdad.

 

Xinhua reported source in the Iraqi security services as saying that the blast wounded two Iraqi civilians.  No information on US casualties, if any, was available.

 

Bomb kills Iraqi civilian in southeastern Baghdad midday Monday.

 

In a dispatch posted on its Arabic website at 6:37pm Monday afternoon Beijing time (1:37pm in Baghdad), the Xinhua News Agency reported that a bomb that had been planted in a man’s car blew up in the Baghdad al-Jadidah district in the southeast of the Iraqi capital at midday, Monday.

 

Xinhua reported source in the Iraqi security services as saying that the blast killed the driver, destroyed the car, and damaged several shops located in the area.

Bomb reportedly destroys US Humvee in Samarra’.

 

In a dispatch posted at 7:55pm Baghdad time Monday evening, the Yaqen News Agency reported that a bomb exploded by a US patrol on the main road in Samarra’, 120km north of Baghdad on Monday afternoon.

 

Yaqen reported witnesses as saying that the homemade bomb destroyed one Humvee, killing or wounding the Americans aboard.  The witnesses said they saw the US troops pulling their comrades from inside the vehicle and then sealing off the area.

Suicide bomber kills US soldier, four Iraqis in at-Tarimiyah Sunday evening.

 

In a dispatch posted on its Arabic website at 12:32pm Monday afternoon Beijing time (7:32am in Baghdad), the Xinhua News Agency reported that the US military had announced that one US soldier and four Iraqi civilians had been killed and two US soldiers and 21 Iraqis had been wounded when a person wearing an explosive belt blew himself up in at-Tarimiyah, 30km north of Baghdad, on Sunday.

 

Xinhua reported a US communiqué as saying that those wounded in the attack consisted of two American soldiers, 15 Iraqi civilians, three Iraqi government police, and three Iraqi tribal “Awakening” police.  The American communiqué announced that US forces received a report that a bomb had exploded in the city and sent a detachment to investigate the report.  When the US troops arrived on the scene, a suicide bomber wearing an explosive belt blew himself up, after which gunmen equipped with light arms opened fire.

 

Earlier a source in the Iraqi police had told Xinhua that a suicide bomber had blown himself up in the midst of a gathering of Iraqi civilians and Iraqi security personnel gathered at a vacated house in at-Tarimiyah.  The family that owned the house had been planning to return to the city because of the improved security situation in the Baghdad area.

Ba‘qubah.

 

Woman suicide bomber kills Iraqi policeman, wounds 17 people in Ba‘qubah Monday morning.

 

In a dispatch posted on its Arabic website at 7:26am Tuesday morning Beijing time (2:26am in Baghdad), the Xinhua News Agency reported that a woman wearing an explosive belt blew herself up at a police station in central Ba‘qubah, 65km northeast of Baghdad, before noon on Monday.

 

Xinhua reported a source in the Iraqi security services as saying that the explosion killed one policeman and wounded nine other policemen and eight Iraqi civilians, some of them severely.

 

Since Tuesday 29 July, the US-backed Iraqi regime has been carrying out an operation against al-Qa‘idah in Diyala Province.

 

Bomb kills five women in northern Ba‘qubah.

 

In a dispatch posted on its Arabic website at 7:26am Tuesday morning Beijing time (2:26am in Baghdad), the Xinhua News Agency reported that a bomb exploded to the north of Ba‘qubah, which is 65km northeast of Baghdad, on Monday.

 

Xinhua reported that the explosion killed five women and wounded three other people, some of them severely.

 

Since Tuesday 29 July, the US-backed Iraqi regime has been carrying out an operation against al-Qa‘idah in Diyala Province.

 

Iraqi security forces arrest 367 in two-week security campaign targeting al-Qa‘idah in Diyala Province.

 

In a dispatch posted on its Arabic website at 7:26am Tuesday morning Beijing time (2:26am in Baghdad), the Xinhua News Agency reported the Iraqi Interior Ministry as announcing that the campaign against al-Qa‘idah, launched on Tuesday, 29 July, had so far resulted in the arrest of 367 “suspects.”

 

Xinhua reported the statement as saying that the violence that has accompanied the security operation has left 14 civilians dead and 40 more of them wounded.  At the same time 2,183 families that had fled their homes in the province have returned home due to the promise of greater security.

 

Major General Muhammad al-‘Askari, spokesman for the Iraqi Defense Ministry, issued a press release in which he stated that 42 of the people arrested during the security sweep in Diyala Province are high-ranking commanders of armed groups, in particular al-Qa‘idah.  He added that four gunmen had been killed in the course of the operation.

 

Six Iraqi troops injured in Humvee accident.

 

In a dispatch posted on its Arabic website at 7:26am Tuesday morning Beijing time (2:26am in Baghdad), the Xinhua News Agency reported that six Iraqi army troops were injured when their Humvee overturned.

 

Ninwa Province.

Al-Mawsil.

 

Gunmen attack policeman’s house in al-Mawsil, killing him.

 

In a dispatch posted at 5:44pm Baghdad time Monday afternoon, the Yaqen News Agency reported that gunmen in a late-model car attacked the home of a policeman in the al-Karamah neighborhood of eastern al-Mawsil, 420km northwest of Baghdad.

 

Yaqen reported a source in the government police as saying that the attack sparked a gun battle in which one of the gunmen was killed.  The policeman was badly wounded in the attack, however, and died after being taken to hospital.

 

The source said that the policeman was on vacation at the time of the attack and added that the gunmen managed to scoop up the body of their dead companion before they fled the scene.
