The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported eyewitnesses as saying that US troops raided Internet cafes in ‘Anah demanding their owners to shut them down immediately and cut all connection with the Internet from homes, including wireless Internet connections.  The Americans said that if their orders were not carried out, they would confiscate all the computers and Internet access equipment in ‘Anah.  They further gave notice that anyone using the Internet was subject to arrest.  The Americans said that if anyone resumed use of the Internet without the knowledge and permission of the US military, their offices and computers would be seized immediately.

With the end of all Internet access the city of ‘Anah has now been virtually completely cut off from the outside world, the correspondent wrote.  The US forces already had shut down all ground telephone lines to and from the city and there is no cellular telephone service to ‘Anah.  The Americans have also banned the use of satellite telephones but some residents of the city still secretly keep satellite telephones that they use for communications that are absolutely needed.
