The AMSI reported that the first rocket blasted into the top-security area around the Republican Palace in downtown Baghdad – the area that the United States calls the “Green Zone.”

The second rocket landed in the area of the refineries in the southern Baghdad suburb of ad-Durah, igniting fires and sending clouds of smoke billowing into the sky – clouds visible from many parts of the Iraqi capital.

The third rocket landed in Baghdad’s al-Karradah area.  No information on the nature or extent of losses was immediately available.

Yaqen reported sources in the puppet police as saying Monday that Shaykh Jum ‘ah ad-Duyahmah, who is also the Imam of the Tikrit City Mosque, had been arrested.

Yaqen reported that ad-Duhaymah was known as one of the leading Islamic religious scholars of the city and was known for his moderate Islamic views and for hostility to the US occupation.  His arrest stirred a wave of anger in the streets of the city and surrounding areas, the news agency reported.

Samarra’.

Puppet regime closes only remaining entrance to Samarra’ following shooting of puppet soldier.

In a dispatch posted at 11:10pm Baghdad time Monday night, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported that Iraqi puppet forces closed the one entrance to the city of Samarra’ at noon on Monday after a puppet policeman was killed on the west bank of the Tigris River in the city by an Iraqi Resistance sharpshooter.

The AMSI reported that meanwhile fighting broke out between Resistance men on one side and US troops and their puppet allies on the other in the as-Sikak neighborhood of the city.  No information on the outcome of the fighting was available.

On Sunday, AMSI reported, US forces opened fire indiscriminately around the neighborhood of al-Jubayriyah after an Iraqi Resistance bomb exploded by a US patrol.  The wild American shooting began just as primary schools were letting out, and children coming into the streets were panicked.

At the beginning of December, US and puppet forces established tight control over the city, allowing only one entrance (out of a possible three) to remain open.  Today that entrance was also sealed off.
